Yes. Customers must sign in to a Google Account before posting a Google review. They do not need a Gmail address, but they do need a Google Account. EasyTap makes your review link easier to open; it does not bypass Google’s sign-in requirement.
What happens after a tap or scan?
A customer taps the NFC point with a compatible phone or scans the QR code, then opens the link that appears. Whether they use the EasyTap Stand, Card, or Adhesive Square, the link leads them to your Google review destination.
If they are already signed in in the browser or app that opens, they can continue to the review. Otherwise, Google asks them to sign in before they can post. Being signed in somewhere else on the phone does not necessarily mean they are signed in in that browser or app.
Can they use an email that is not Gmail?
Yes. Customers can sign in using a Gmail address or a supported non-Gmail address already associated with their Google Account, using their Google Account password and any verification Google requests. An email inbox alone is not a Google Account.
If they do not have an account and want to create one, Google offers an option to use an existing email address instead of making a new Gmail address. They select Create account, choose the existing-email option, verify that email, and follow Google’s remaining steps. See Google’s account creation instructions.
What should staff do if a customer is not signed in?
Give them time and privacy to sign in on their own device. Never ask for their password or verification code, or post from the business’s account on their behalf. If they prefer not to sign in or create an account, accept that choice.
A neutral in-person prompt: “If you’d like to share your experience, tap or scan here. Google may ask you to sign in first. You’re welcome to do it later.”
A neutral follow-up: “Thanks for visiting. If you’d like to share an honest review, here’s our Google review link. You’ll need to sign in to a Google Account before posting. No pressure.” Add your business’s own review link when sending it.
